aprilwrapup

Hey guys!

This year so far has not been great for reading (or blogging, but more on that later on in the post), and I’m completely failing my Goodreads challenge! I’m trying to make more time to read, so hopefully I’ll catch up a bit, especially during the summer (I’m actually seven books behind schedule at the moment ahh).

I’ve read this month…

Ruin and Rising (The Grisha #3) by Leigh Bardugo

I’ve loved every book I’ve read by Leigh Bardugo, and Ruin & Rising was no exception! It was a great ending to a wonderful series, and you can check out my review of it here.

Goodreads Synopsis:

The capital has fallen.

The Darkling rules Ravka from his shadow throne.

Now the nation’s fate rests with a broken Sun Summoner, a disgraced tracker, and the shattered remnants of a once-great magical army.

Deep in an ancient network of tunnels and caverns, a weakened Alina must submit to the dubious protection of the Apparat and the zealots who worship her as a Saint. Yet her plans lie elsewhere, with the hunt for the elusive firebird and the hope that an outlaw prince still survives.

Alina will have to forge new alliances and put aside old rivalries as she and Mal race to find the last of Morozova’s amplifiers. But as she begins to unravel the Darkling’s secrets, she reveals a past that will forever alter her understanding of the bond they share and the power she wields. The firebird is the one thing that stands between Ravka and destruction—and claiming it could cost Alina the very future she’s fighting for.

This book had been sitting on my shelf for a little while, and I finally decided to give it a go – and I’m really glad I did, because I enjoyed it so much. My review of this one will be up soon, so watch out for it!

Goodreads Synopsis:

Kaz is still reeling from being dumped by the love of her life… Ruby is bored of hearing about it. Time to change the record.

Three days. Two best mates. One music festival. Zero chance of everything working out.

I’m currently reading…

Cruel Beauty (Cruel Beauty Universe, #1)

Cruel Beauty (Cruel Beauty Universe #1) by Rosamund Hodge

I started Cruel Beauty earlier this week, and quickly found myself sucked into the confusing swirl that is the plot of this novel. I’m close to the end now, and all I can say at the moment is: I’m confused. So confused. I have issues with the main character and I really don’t know what to expect next, but I’m interested to read on and see.

Goodreads Synopsis:

Based on the classic fairy tale Beauty and the Beast, Cruel Beauty is a dazzling love story about our deepest desires and their power to change our destiny.

Since birth, Nyx has been betrothed to the evil ruler of her kingdom-all because of a foolish bargain struck by her father. And since birth, she has been in training to kill him.

With no choice but to fulfill her duty, Nyx resents her family for never trying to save her and hates herself for wanting to escape her fate. Still, on her seventeenth birthday, Nyx abandons everything she’s ever known to marry the all-powerful, immortal Ignifex. Her plan? Seduce him, destroy his enchanted castle, and break the nine-hundred-year-old curse he put on her people.

But Ignifex is not at all what Nyx expected. The strangely charming lord beguiles her, and his castle—a shifting maze of magical rooms—enthralls her.

As Nyx searches for a way to free her homeland by uncovering Ignifex’s secrets, she finds herself unwillingly drawn to him. Even if she could bring herself to love her sworn enemy, how can she refuse her duty to kill him? With time running out, Nyx must decide what is more important: the future of her kingdom, or the man she was never supposed to love.

Personal Update

So it’s been a long time since I was last regularly posting on my blog. Life’s a bit busy at the moment, sorting out assignments and trying to figure out my future and all that scary exciting stuff, and I’ve definitely neglected my blog because of it.

It’s not just my blog that’s suffered though: it’s everything. I’ve hardly been reading (I’ve only read five books this year – where has the time gone?!), and I’ve only been writing a little here and there. I kind of pushed back all of my hobbies to try and focus on other things, but I’m determined to change that now.

I miss my blog! And I miss reading all the time, so I’m trying to get more organised and figure out a way to make time for all the things I want to do. This hopefully means you’ll be seeing more posts from me again!

Thanks!

– Emma
