My 2020 Bookish Goals!

Hey guys!

The only goal I tend to set myself each year is the number of books I want to read with the Goodreads challenge (which I almost always fail). But I realised there’s a few more bookish things I’d like to accomplish this year:

Finish the Books I Start

This was a big issue for me last year. I started so many books, got a good chunk of the way through them and then never picked them up again. I think the issue was I’d leave books for days at a time between reading, and by the time I picked them back up again, I just couldn’t seem to settle back into the story.

This year, unless I’m DNF-ing a book because I’m not enjoying it, I’m determined to finish the books I start!

Broaden My Bookish Horizons

I surprised myself last year because for the first time in my life, I chose to read a classic. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve said (and written on this blog) that classics aren’t my thing, but I actually enjoyed the one I read last year. I also picked up a couple of non-fiction books, and found that I liked reading them. Again, this was a big shock to me because I’d never read anything that wasn’t fiction which I enjoyed prior to this.

I’d like to continue reading outside my favourite genres this year, and explore what other books have to offer!

Diverse Reads!!!!

This is one of my goals that I’m most passionate about: I want to actively read more books by diverse authors and about diverse characters. It’s so important for there to be representation within books, and I’d like to make sure I’m helping by reading those books so more can be published.

The reason I love reading so much is because it allows you to be put into someone else’s shoes; to be opened up to a new perspective that you might not know anything about. I feel like I’ve learnt a lot through the books I’ve read, and I’d like to continue doing that this year.

Listen to More Audiobooks

When I first tried an audiobook, I didn’t really like it. I couldn’t remember anything that had happened within the book, and so just figured they weren’t for me.

But during the middle of this year, I started listening to the audiobook of Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. I found it so comforting to listen to a book I know and love that I kept listening to it on repeat. This year, I’d like to listen to more audiobooks – even for books I haven’t read before!

Alongside these goals, I’ve set my Goodreads challenge to 25 books! I know that’s a very low number for a bookworm, but I’m not going to have much time to read until the summer, and I’m hoping that 25 is a realistic number.

What are your bookish goals for 2020?!

Thanks For Reading!-4
